The recent Recipe for Health: A Plan to Fix Our Broken Food System report by the UK House of Lords brings critical attention to challenges in the food landscape—issues that resonate across Western countries, including Denmark. While obesity levels in Denmark and the EU are lower than in the UK, they have been steadily rising over the past decade. This trend underscores the relevance of the UK report’s findings to our broader European context, calling for urgent reforms in how we produce, market, and access food.
As a Danish company, Earth’s Finest is committed to supporting the values behind these reforms, aligning with Denmark’s health-focused, sustainable approach to food. We are also dedicated to supporting British consumers in their journey toward better health by providing organic, minimally processed, and transparently sourced products. Our tagline, Food today, grown like yesterday, reflects this mission. As a certified zero-carbon brand, we work closely with organic farmers, use eco-friendly packaging, and strive to make clean, nourishing foods accessible to all.
Inspired by this report and aligned with our values, Earth’s Finest is committed to the following actions to support a healthier, more sustainable food system:
Denmark has pioneered food labelling that helps consumers make healthier choices, and we strongly support this approach. Every Earth’s Finest product carries our Committed to Goodness band, clearly outlining dietary suitability, our carbon commitment, and certifications. Looking ahead, we are furthering our transparency by revealing more about our supply chain and emissions. This will ensure that our customers not only know what’s in our food but understand its origins and environmental impact. We’re also committed to responsible marketing practices, avoiding any advertising that promotes excessive consumption or targets vulnerable groups, including children.
The House of Lords report calls on the food industry to address ultra-processed foods—a commitment Earth’s Finest has embraced since our inception. We encourage our peers in Denmark and beyond to take action to reduce these products. We proudly commit never to produce ultra-processed foods, offering only minimally processed alternatives like our organic coconut oil and nutrient-rich quinoa. This pledge reflects Denmark’s tradition of clean, wholesome food, which prioritises health over convenience.
While the report emphasizes the importance of supporting local farmers within the UK, we believe these challenges are globally relevant. At Earth’s Finest, supporting smallholder farmers worldwide is central to our commitment to ethical sourcing and sustainability. For instance, we work with over 200 smallholder farmers in Peru, promoting sustainable practices that benefit both the farmers and the environment. By partnering with small-scale producers globally, we ensure that our products are not only high-quality but also responsibly sourced, contributing to a resilient, sustainable food system that benefits communities everywhere.
Denmark has consistently promoted organic food affordability, with 13% of all food in Denmark being organic and an ambitious target to reach 25% in the coming years. At Earth’s Finest, we champion competitive pricing, even as we maintain a small premium compared to conventionally farmed products—a factor linked to the slightly lower yields inherent in organic farming. We believe in “Value Without Compromise,” and remain dedicated to making nutritious, organic foods accessible to everyone.
Denmark has long prioritised environmental responsibility, and at Earth’s Finest, we are proud to be a certified carbon-neutral company. Sustainability is a continuous journey, and we’re pushing forward with our mission to achieve 100% recyclable, biodegradable packaging across all products. In addition, we are actively working towards achieving carbon-negative status by 2032, setting a new standard for environmental stewardship. Where Danish policies set the standard for sustainability, we aim to follow. Additionally, we align with broader EU initiatives, such as the Circular Economy and Farm to Fork strategies, to ensure that our sustainable practices reflect the highest environmental standards across Europe.
In Closing
The challenges outlined in the House of Lords report call for a collective response—not only within the UK but across Europe and the world. At Earth’s Finest, I’m personally committed to leading the way, ensuring our brand continues to champion both health and sustainability in every product we offer. We believe that a healthier food system is within reach, one that respects both the wellbeing of our communities and the planet.
As we move forward, I invite you to join us in this journey—choosing products that not only nourish you but also support a healthier future for all.
